The increase in global wealth in the hands of a few is directly related to the current climate emergency. Millionaires demand much more energy and consumption than the rest of the world, yet the impacts of the climate crisis affect the poorest regions, including Latin America. A report on climate inequality reveals that the richest 10% of the planet generates 47% of emissions, while the poorest half bears the brunt of the losses. Emissions from the ultra-rich are linked to worsening heat waves and droughts in the Amazon. Peru is the South American country most affected in the last three decades, according to the Climate Risk Index.
